G is for goal
*The goal to write, write, write*
You aren't a writer because you like things simple.
You aren't a writer because you love rejections.
You're a writer because no matter how tough it gets, you've got a goal. The goal to write that book inside your head, the one driving you. Why? Because your goal is what you live for.
Even if your current WIP is tougher to write than you thought, and taking a lot longer to finish than you expected, you and I both know, you were born to write. It's why you feel most alive when you're writing.
Sure you love your family and friends. But you're a writer, and as a writer, you don't have to explain to the rest of us (writers) what writing feels like. You don't have to explain how painful that last rejection letter was. Or that 2 star review. All you have to do is keeping working on your goal.
Write.
The stuff life throws at you in between is what Insecure Writer's Support Group on the first Wednesday of every month is for.
Happy Writing!
This is so true and good inspiration!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Dani! Glad to hear that.
ReplyDeleteI have some suggestions from a reader for some rewrite on my manuscript for my third book, so I'm mulling that over as to how it fits into the story. Having a reader (actually my older daughter) is extremely helpful.
ReplyDeleteWonderful encouragement! :)
ReplyDeleteWe have a goal! And fortunately those who understand us.
ReplyDeleteYes! Thanks for the encouragement!
ReplyDeleteGoals are sure grand and I have a few
ReplyDeleteDefinitely needed!

ReplyDeleteHi Joylene .. keep actioning life towards your goal - never stop and never let up .. take a breath occasionally .. cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteOne of this year's goals is to get one of those horrifyingly painful rejection letters. I have promised that 2015 is my submission year! Enough of just writing stuff and doing nothing with it - I have a GOAL now! I must submit.
ReplyDeletewish me luck o_o
Thanks for visiting my blog. So this is where the IWSG hangs out! A couple of my forum friends belong to this group and I wondered where it began.
ReplyDeleteI can relate so well to the sentiments expressed in your post.
Yes. I was behind on my goals but I'm doing better now.
ReplyDeleteWithout goals, we accomplish nothing.
ReplyDeleteSometimes if I've stayed up writing into the wee small hours, my goal can be as simple as getting out of bed the next morning! ;) But yes, in meeting my writing goals I'm always encouraged by the ongoing support of the writing community. It's a good place. Thanks, Joylene.
ReplyDeleteAmen! Keep the main thing the main thing. I get off track sometimes worrying about how a work will be received, but really I just want to write the best possible story, one that most closely matches the vision in my brain.
ReplyDeleteI don't think we'd get very far without setting some goals.
ReplyDeleteVery inspirational! Goals are so important. Awesome post! :)

ReplyDeleteVery inspirational! And I'm going to get right back to my desperately-in-need-of-editing WIP right away. Well, as soon as the challenge is over...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the boost of positivity, Joylene!
