J is for Joie de Vivre

The way we approach the jobs we have to do makes all the difference in how they get done. A positive attitude makes hard jobs seem easier and simpler to accomplish.

With a healthy dose of  joie de vivre—a cheerful enjoyment of life—we can accomplish the job we have to do while facing what might otherwise seem like torture.

Writers operate like hamsters on a wheel. We start books, agonize over getting to a certain word count, wade through the editing and publication process and then start all over again.  It sounds repetitive enough to make your tired, right? However ...

Our way of dealing with this lengthy process will either exhaust or help us stay the course. Taking on each task with an upbeat attitude makes the creative process one we will enjoy, knowing we're striving for excellent results at the end of each journey.

What approach will you take today? One of joy and gratitude? Or one of joy and gratitude? See what I did there? Go forth, determined to enjoy the tasks that lie ahead of you today!

Wonderful post! I find my day is always better when I start out with joy and gratitude, and this is a great reminder to do it with writing tasks too. :)

Hi Joy - it's easier to be optimistic and realise we are lucky - and if for a time life is challenging .. then still realise we are lucky .. and let things settle out - still putting your best foot forward with a smile on your face .. cheers Hilary

Tasks go so much better when you're smiling and enjoying what you're doing. That's my plan. :-)

Love this post! It reminds me of Disney's Snow White singing Whistle While You Work while she's cleaning house.

A positive environment starts from within. From there is transcends a positive wish to the outside world. Kind of like the interaction, the empowering of both writer and reader.

I have Joy and Gratitude, that no matter what, no matter how daunting life can seem, a positive distraction works wonders.

Love your tips and a joyful attitude should always be at the top of the goal list. I tried to instill the motto "Attitude "A" everyday into my kids. For the most part it seems to have taken hold in their lives and I am very grateful for that. On the journey of writing and tackling hard jobs, that makes sense as a good goal as well. Thanks. Maria

Great advice. I try to wear a smile even if the feeling isn't there. It does eventually effect my mood as well as those around me. At worst, people wonder what I'm up to. ~grin~ Happy writing!

I'm going to take one day at a time after I sit down and make a spreadsheet of some kind. The point is to be happy despite whatever happens.
