Ghost in The IWSG Day Machine

Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!

Posting: The first Wednesday of every month is officially Insecure Writer’s Support Group day. Post your thoughts on your own blog. Talk about your doubts and the fears you have conquered. Discuss your struggles and triumphs. Offer a word of encouragement for others who are struggling. Visit others in the group and connect with your fellow writer - aim for a dozen new people each time - and return comments. This group is all about connecting! Be sure to link to this page and display the badge in your post.

And please be sure your avatar links back to your blog! Otherwise, when you leave a comment, people can't find you to comment back.

Let’s rock the neurotic writing world!

Our Twitter handle is @TheIWSG and hashtag is #IWSG.

The awesome co-hosts for the October 2nd posting of the IWSG are Nancy Gideon, Jennifer Lane, Jacqui Murray, and Natalie Aguirre!

Every month, we announce a question that members can answer in their IWSG post. These questions may prompt you to share advice, insight, a personal experience or story. Include your answer to the question in your IWSG post or let it inspire your post if you are struggling with something to say.

Remember, the question is optional!

October 2 Question - Ghost stories fit right in during this month. What's your favorite classic ghostly tale? Tell us about it and why it sends chills up your spine.

Got any favorite ghostly tales? I'm trying to think if I do. Does Ghostbusters count?

Ones based on "real" life I tend to find interesting. Whether that is interesting in an eye roll worthy way or in a creepy way, I guess that all depends on the tale.

The Mothman is one that just popped into my head. Not really creepy, as he/she/it was never truly evil by the retellings. Poor Mothman was just there to try to warn people.

Think of any good ghost stories yet? Ever hear of The Mothman? Maybe it is related to Bigfoot and Nessie. You think?

Yes, Ghostbusters is a good choice. And it's one of the few ghost stories I like.

Love Ghostbusters with its laugh out loud scenes.

Mothman - there was a movie about it some years ago. And an X-Files episode.

Hi Pat - I'd go with a good old fashioned British story ... The Canterville Ghost ... adding a bit of humour to all the ghostly tales - from the short story by Oscar Wilde. Cheers Hilary

We recently watched the new Beetlejuice. It was silly and lighthearted and so we watched the first one again. Happy IWSG day, Pat.

I'm not a scary story fan, but I do know that "The Telltale Heart' is legendary -

Here you are! I have heard of the Mothman, but that's all. I did love "Ghostbusters!"

I've seen the Mothman Prophecies. Scary. I have my own "Moth" story. After my fiancé died, I began seeing black moths outside my house. One night, a black moth grazed my face when I was sleeping. Creeped me out. I told my caretaker and his wife and they told me of the legend of black moth visitations here in Mexico. Either the black moths are heralding your death or it's a visit from a deceased loved one. Eleven years later, I'm still here. . .and so is the occasional black moth in my bedroom.

I don't remember the Mothman. We had "Bloody Mary" in SC growing up.

Ghostbusters totally counts.

...do you really believe in ghosts, Mothman, Bigfoot and Nessie? Who is Mothman???

I've watched Mothman with Richard Gere several times, and I've watched videos at YouTube about that whole event. I recently showed the movie to my niece. She loved it. My favorite ghost story is "The Changeling" with George C. Scott, (especially with The Management team from Newcastle After Dark hosting it.) Hope you're doing well and are not affected by Hurricane Helene.

Natalie - One of the few I like too. Original anyway.

Leigh - Great one indeed.

Alex - Yeah. I recalled the movie right away. Forgot about the x-files episode though.

Hilary - humor sure is the way.

Diane - original indeed.

Joylene - I still have to watch the second.

Lee - Yeah. Not much scary to it, just fun.

PJ - Legendary is a win.

Fundy Blue - If he/it shows up, go back to Hawaii lol

Yvonne - Fun it is indeed.

Leigh - never knew of that. Guess it wasn't the former indeed. Just visiting is much better outcome.

Elizabeth - Bloody mary sure gets around.

Patricia - Thought so lol

Tom - Do I?

Doralynn - Yeah. I haven't shown it to the kids yet as they would probably have nightmares and momma would be miffed at me haha
