I don't bother making New Year's Resolutions anymore because, from past experience, they are short-lived goals. I'm always remorseful I haven't followed through with most--or sometimes any--of them come March. Then guilt follows remorse and...well, you can see where I'm going with this.
However, wishes aren't resolutions, and I'm not making them during a milestone or an emotionally charged time, so I thought...why not?
For 2022, my authorly self wishes that I will write stories that are better than the ones I've written in the past.
My wish isn't momentous, but I promise it's heartfelt! Once I'd made it, I thought other authors might also have some interesting wishes to share, so I asked some to send them to me, so I could share. Here's what they said and in the order I received their responses.
With a new book coming out April 5, I guess my wish would be that it would find many readers and take them away from the evils and the lies of this world.
The only wish I have is for World Peace. "What the world needs now is love, sweet love. No, not just for some, but for everyone."
My one wish for 2022 is for readers to love my forthcoming literary suspense, THE BLUE BAR so much that it exceeds my publishers' expectations. This book lost me a literary agent, found me another, snagged me a 2-book deal with Thomas & Mercer, and has got great advance praise from stalwart authors like Lisa Gardner and Hank Philippi Ryan. In a world going slowly insane, I hope this little book stays the course and goes the distance.
I hope my stories bring joy, inspire bravery and compassion, and help readers escape this crazy world we're living in just for a little while. Goodness knows that books have helped keep me sane!
My wish: That my new revamped productivity blog helps other writers make the most of their creative time.
Here we go, with my one wish for 2022: Scam-free email, virus-free internet, cheap gas, an agent who loves my books, and a six pack of Red Bull so I can write forever.
If I had one wish as a writer for 2022, it would be to be better at prioritizing my writing over other things I allow to take precedence. Frequently, it takes last place, and while there are things that should come before writing, there are plenty more that shouldn't. And I wish the same for anyone else that struggles with this, as well!
I think a wish is difficult because it feels out of reach. Yes, I got hung up on a word! But my wish or hope is to get my children's book out this year. And my hope for everyone is to move forward despite the setbacks that keep smacking us in the face.
What would make me happiest in 2022 would be to see my memoir published, which it should be on May 7, and to get some feedback from readers who've read and enjoyed it. I'm pretty sure there will be feedback from those that don't like it for some reason, but so long as the likes outweigh the dislikes, I'll be happy!
Those are good. Completely agree with you, Christine.
Loved reading everyone's wishes. What a great idea.
That's a lot of fabulous wishes and I join you all in wishing they come true for you!
Great wishes and I'm with you on so many of them.
Here's to them coming true for all!
We writers are a predictable bunch aren't we? I agree with all of those wishes!
Oh Shannon! Yes!
Lot's of good wishes... Peace, a virus free internet (and no more COVID visuses I might add)... I'm just hoping to finish my home library, which is coming near completion...
I hope all the wishes come true!
These are great! I could go for some cheaper gas myself.
@Jill--it's gotten out of hand, hasn't it? Luckily my commute is short (upstairs)!
My goal for 2022 is to finish the first draft of my new novel, so I can get to revising! My wish for 2022 is world peace.
focusing on putting one foot in front of next this year. My only goal is publishing one thing each day on my substack and writing one listicle entry each day.
These are all great and attainable wishes, but Jacqui, cheap gas? Not sure about that one. :)
Lots of good wishes here. Virus free internet would be wondrous.
And, of course, world peace.
It was fun reading all of the authors' wishes! Thanks for sending in your wishes, everyone!
Thank you for sharing all our wishes--I'm manifesting all of them to come true!
Yes it has!
Good wishes - may they all become burning desires and come true.
Insecure Writers make terrific wishes. <3 I'm with the "write better" one. Can't fix the world, but that one's up to me ;)
That was super fun. All those great wishes for 2022. Love the humor and kindness. :-)
A wonderful collection of wishes - may all of them come through. I agree that if you set your mind on something strongly enough, it has a better chance of happening. Determination, belief, and some talent might achieve those goals!
We all wish to have a good year with our books for sure. I wish for cheaper gas also, couldn't help but look at the gas prices all the time.
What a great idea!
Hi Lee - what a clever idea to list these out ... sometimes wishes provide other ideas and thoughts - we can adjust. Fun to read bloggers' thoughts - and to see their books etc ... thanks and good luck to you with your hike - cheers Hilary
A lovely selection of wishes.
This was a wonderful idea, Lee! May everyone's wishes manifest and this be a great year.
